The Garmin Montana 650 is one of three models in Garmin’s newest handheld series. With it’s huge 4” touchscreen, I had initially thought the Montanas were targeted to the motorized crowd (ATV’s, etc.), but after spending over a month with one, I’m convinced that a lot of hikers and geocachers will be attracted to it as well. Before we get into the details, here’s some info on the rest of the series

GPS Garmin Montana adalah GPS handheld kelas atas. Bahannya sangat kuat dan tampilan sangat kokoh dan besar. Ini adalah GPS paling kokoh pernah saya lihat setelah GPS Garmin Oregon 550.

Oregon sudah berusia dua tahun dan Garmin memutuskan menggantinya dengan Garmin Montana ini dalam waktu tak lama lagi.

Perbedaan Oregon 550 dan Montana 650 ada disini:

Secara garis besar, Montana mengalami peningkatan sebagai berikut:

- Layar lebih besar 3 inch vs 4 inch

- Karena lebih besar layarnya, Montana jadi lebih berat karena Montana juga memakai baterai AA sebanyak 3 buah sementara Oregon hanya 2 buah

- Berat adalah 192.7gr (Oregon 550) dan 333gr (Montana 650) dengan terpasang baterai AA

- Resolusi juga beda 240×400 (Oregon 550) dan 272×480 pixels (Montana 650)

- Kamera 3.2mpix (Oregon) vs 5 mpix (Montana)

- Internal memory 800MB dan 3GB (Montana)

- Waypoint 2000 titik (Oregon) sementara Montana 4000 titik

- Untuk Montana anda bisa pakai baterai charge (bentuknya kotak), jadi Anda bisa pilih pakai lithium yang disertakan ataupun AA 3 buah

- Sementara lainnya tetap sama seperti barometer, fitur wireless, HRM dan cadence sensor, waterproof, Micro SD slot, USB mini konektor, peta darat, laut, G2vision, topografi dan 3D DEM.

- Namun ada perbedaan Montana adalah theme yang disediakan, Anda bisa mengubah tema yang disediakan menjadi tema bersepeda, laut, dan bahkan tampilan persis dengan Nuvi. Anda bisa menipu teman Anda bahwa ini Nuvi waterproof :)

- Dan fitur tak ada di handheld Garmin manapun adalah navigasi suara TTS, namun Anda harus memasang jack audio ke speaker atau ke headphone (tidak disediakan), jadi handheld ini bisa ngomong “belok kiri di jalan diponegoro”

- Signal GPS beda sekali dengan seri lama, penangkapan signal luar biasa bahkan sampai di dalam gedung saja masih bisa tertangkap signal GPS (locked)

- Prosesor lebih cepat, buktinya, waktu buka peta 3D DEM, Montana lebih cepat nongolnya dibanding Oregon
